LBP will always hold a soft spot for me. It was my foray into AAA development - a journey of many twists and turns, triumphs and fears, plus an extra large dose of imposter syndrome.

LBP3: Create Mode

LBP3: Create Mode

I worked on LBP3 for a period of around four years, from the base game, to several of the DLC Packs. I was acting Lead QA on the project, tasked with coordinating the testing of the new levels, the backwards compatibility, and of course, the Create Mode.

The Create Mode is without doubt the area I became most fascinated with. Originally I scoffed at its seemingly backwards approach to tools, as I was a member of “proper engines” such as the UDK and Cryengine.

I was so unbelievably wrong! Naive! Ignorant!
It took me far longer then I care to admit, but there were many hard lessons learnt. This series of games opened up the development process to far more people of different classes and cultures then ‘traditional’ engines ever could.

Through it, my eyes were opened to the sheer power games can have. The idea that games should be made a certain way for them to be considered ‘valid’ was washed away. Replaced with the knowledge that games and their development are for everyone. Any tool that allows people to express their creativity and tell their stories should be lauded.
